Liverpool player ratings as Naby Keita brilliant and Trent great against Benfica

Alisson Becker 7

Quiet first half but busier after the break and made one strong stop to deny Everton before almost being caught out by Rafa.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8

Very solid defensively on his return from injury, always willing going forward and showed vision and execution with superb diagonal for Diaz in build-up to second goal. Subbed.

Ibrahima Konate 7

Comprehensively won his individual battle with Darwin first half and headed in debut Liverpool strike for the opener, but blotted copybook with mistake that gifted Benfica striker goal second half. Steady after that, though.

AS IT HAPPENED: Updates and analysis from Benfica vs Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk 7

Kept things simple and straightforward during a first half in which he was rarely troubled, and calmed choppy waters in wake of Benfica goal.

Andy Robertson 7

Constantly provided support down the left flank first half and pinpoint delivery from corner created the opener. Bit rash with tackling at times, however.

Fabinho 7

As the only defence-minded midfielder, had to put in some hard graft whenever Benfica countered and asked to do a lot in second half.

Thiago Alcantara 7

Playing on the left edge of the engine room, helped Liverpool dominate the arm-wrestle in first half and used the ball so efficiently. Tired a little after that. Booked and subbed.

Naby Keita 9

Passed and pressed superbly, and showed great mobility in attack and defence. Missed easy first-half header but brilliant run and pass put Diaz in for the third. Excellent. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 7

Far more bright than on Saturday, only denied goal his first-half show deserved by two good saves by Vlachodimos. Subbed.

Sadio Mane 7

Another decent display down the centre, one backheel to Salah was sublime and in the right place to score the second. Subbed.

Luis Diaz 7

Frightened Benfica right-back Gilberto with his pace and direct running, dragged one shot wide and headed assist for Mane. Moved to right flank on the hour and continued to be busy and notched the third. Subbed.

Roberto Firmino (for Mane 61) 7

Lively in possession and pressing bothered Benfica.

Jordan Henderson (for Thiago 61) 6

Found it difficult to make a consistent impact on the game.

Diogo Jota (for Salah 61) 6

One run almost opened up an opportunity and missed great chance late on for fourth.

Joe Gomez (for Alexander-Arnold 89)

Win bonus.

James Milner (for Keita 89)

Similarly rewarded.
