Alisson 6
Not his busiest night between the Anfield sticks. No chance with Isak’s goal.
Alexander-Arnold 5
Caught out as the visitors counter-attacked early in the first-half. Left Gomez outnumbered but was subsequently bailed out by Isak’s woeful finish early. A questionable back pass early on set the tempo in possession as he failed to replicate his prowess in the attack. Looks very tired.
Gomez 6
Dealt with Isak well and used his pace when needed in recovery. Still signs of getting back into the swing of things, but growing in confidence with each passing minute. Aided by Liverpool being more sturdy at the back after the break.
AS IT HAPPENED: Liverpool 2-1 Newcastle as Fabio Carvalho scores late winner
Van Dijk 6
Uncharacteristically dragged out by Almiron for the opening goal and Isak took full advantage of the space. Far better on the ball in the second-half, with the return of some trademark diagonal passes.
Robertson 5
Endured a quiet night by his usual standards, but still yet to kick into gear so far this campaign. Had a few crisp exchanges with Diaz but nowhere near his usual self going forward.
Fabinho 6
Fairly anonymous before half-time as Liverpool struggled to gain any sort of control on the contest. Dropped deeper in the second-half to get on the ball - started the move for Firmino’s goal by breaking the Newcastle lines.
Henderson 5
A night to forget for the Reds’ No.14, who could probably be accused of trying too hard and was subsequently wasteful in possession. At fault for Isak’s goal after cheaply giving away possession. Was subbed with 20 minutes to go.
Elliott 8
This kid is going to be an absolute sensation, for sure. Shades of a young Jack Wilshere against Barcelona as he dipped, ducked and weaved past any Newcastle shirt in sight. Showed brilliant control and awareness to receive the ball before providing a pre-assist for Firmino’s goal. Newcastle tried to kick him off the park. Failed.
Salah 6
Once again showed great understanding with Elliott for the goal, but largely struggled to get involved in the action. Frustrating night for him.
Firmino 7
Liverpool’s joint top goal-scorer so far this season and rolled back the years with a cool finish into the bottom corner from close range. Worked hard throughout as he dropped deep to link play and win it back. Needed more bodies in support at times, especially in the first-half.
Diaz 7
Similarly to Elliott, perhaps the Reds’ most dangerous man in the final third. His willingness to hurry and hound opponents was complimented by his tenacity and flair in possession. Should have done better early on after rounding Pope but fired into the Kop.

Carvalho (Henderson 71’) 7
Welcome to Anfield Fabio Carvalho! What a way to announce yourself. A brilliant cameo rounded off by a superb winner after a goal-mouth scramble. Tracked-back well. Will have been disappointed not to start after Saturday.
Milner (Alexander-Arnold 71’) 5
Steady.
Tsimikas (Robertson 71’) 6
Tried to help Diaz out by overlapping and offered extra legs going forward.
