Liverpool plan Diogo Jota contract talks after Jurgen Klopp's "world class" prediction

Liverpool are reportedly set to continue their squad-wide investment with Diogo Jota the latest to be offered fresh terms to remain at Anfield.

The Reds have already committed a number of key players and staff to new contracts at the club over the past few months. Boss Jurgen Klopp was the first to pen a new deal with Liverpool with his contract being extended until the summer of 2026 back in April.

He was then followed by star forward Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian’s previous deal was set to expire next summer and there was concern that Liverpool would be forced to cash-in on his services or lose him for free in 12 months’ time.

That was not the case though with the former AS Roma forward penning a fresh three-year deal to stay at Anfield. The offers of new deals have not stopped there with defender Joe Gomez also signing a contract set to run until the summer of 2027 despite reported interest in his services from Steven Gerrard ’s Aston Villa.

Jota could well be the latest to be tied down to a new deal at Liverpool having impressed since his 2020 switch from Wolverhampton Wanderers. According to the Liverpool Echo, his eye-catching performances at Anfield have ‘encouraged’ the club to raise the prospect of an improved deal.

It is suggested that he could potentially be in line for an improvement on his current £90,000 per week wages, that being just reward for his displays. Despite that decision, there appears to be no rush on negotiations with Jota still having three years left to run on his contract.

Since arriving at Anfield, the 25-year-old Portuguese international has made 85 appearances and scored 34 goals. He enjoyed an electric start to last season and despite a stuttering last few months, still ended the season with 21 goals in all competitions.

Liverpool boss Klopp has previously praised Jota for his progression since arriving at Anfield and has suggested that he could go on to reach the peak of the game. Speaking back in April, the German said: "Since he came in he improved a lot, that is a little to do with his age, he is growing into the top world class striker role step by step.

"He is delivering for Portugal pretty consistently, which is a difficult job to do with all the offensive talent they have, so he is actually the player we thought he would be and also a little bit better."

Despite his key role in the Liverpool squad and the sale of Mane, Jota now has more competition ahead of next season. The Reds secured the big-money signing of forward Darwin Nunez from Benfica earlier in the window, whilst young winger Fabio Carvalho has already made an impression following his switch from Fulham.
