Liverpool on shortlist of five clubs 'still interested' in Moroccan World Cup star

Liverpool could reignite their interest in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat this summer, according to reports coming out of France.

During the World Cup, it was reported that the player's entourage had been in communication with Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp and after successful talks, a second round of dialogue was to be held after the international tournament in Qatar.

The Reds were strongly linked with a move for the Moroccan midfield star during the January transfer window, but as things transpired, he ended up staying put in Italy.

However, according to a new report from Foot Mercato, the Reds' interest in the 26-year-old has not diminished.

The French outlet have listed Liverpool as one of five cubs interested in snapping Amrabat up this summer. The other four are Tottenham, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain.

Amrabat's reported preference to play in LaLiga gives the Spanish sides an edge, with the Catalan club considered favourites, but the report insists that both the Reds and Spurs "have not said their last word yet".

Klopp is expected to make midfield reinforcements a priority this summer, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all out of contract in June.

Amrabat enjoyed a fine World Cup tournament in November and December, as he played a major role in Morocco making history as they became the first country from Africa to reach the semi-finals. Fiorentina are currently ninth in Serie A, having won four of their last five matches.
