Liverpool on-loan midfielder suffers injury blow after withdrawing from training

James Balagizi has temporarily returned to Liverpool from his loan spell at Crawley Town to assess a suspected injury.

Balagizi will undergo tests on the problem having been forced to withdraw from training with the League Two side last Friday ahead of their home game against Stevenage the following day.

It is believed the 19-year-old midfielder picked up the problem while on international duty with England under-20s, where he featured in the wins over Chile, Morocco and Australia towards the end of last month.

Balagizi has impressed at Crawley having made the season-long switch in August, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 10 appearances.

The highlight of his spell thus far was a goal in the League Cup second round that saw Crawley inflict a shock 2-0 defeat on Premier League side Fulham.

Balagizi, who has been at Liverpool since joining from Manchester City as an U11 player, signed a new contract with the Reds in June having made his way through the ranks at the Academy, and featured in the team that reached the FA Youth Cup final in 2021.

He was named on the bench by Jurgen Klopp for the first team twice last season, but remained an unused substitute for the League Cup third round tie at Norwich City and the FA Cup third round clash at home to Shrewsbury Town.
