Liverpool officials 'laughed' at Barcelona transfer rumour this summer

The summer transfer window isn’t even open yet, but Liverpool are still being linked with potential new players.

One of the latest players linked with a move to Anfield is Ousmane Dembele. The Barcelona star is out of contract this summer, and looks increasingly likely to leave the Nou Camp.

A host of clubs have been credited with an interest in Dembele, namely Chelsea who are said to be the front runners. However, there have also been reports saying that Liverpool are interested in the former Borussia Dortmund talent.

These rumours, though, have recently been quashed by further reports in Spain. One such report has made an interesting claim about Liverpool’s hierarchy.

According to Spanish journalist Sique Rodriguez Gairi, Liverpool’s club officials “laughed” when they heard the rumours linking the club with Dembele. Adding that the Reds are not interested in bringing the Barcelona forward to Anfield this summer.

Dembele has made 32 appearances for Barcelona this season, but has only scored twice. Despite this lack of form in front of goal, the La Liga giants are thought to have been keen to extend the player’s contract to avoid losing him for nothing.

But it appears that Dembele is edging closer to an exit on a free transfer from Barcelona. He signed for the Spanish club from Dortmund in 2017 for a fee potentially reaching £135.5m.
