Liverpool officially has world's oldest grotto and Santa is touring the city this week to celebrate

Santa will tour Liverpool this week to celebrate his grotto being named in the Guinness World Records.

The World Famous Grotto at St John’s Shopping Centre has been a Christmas favourite in Liverpool since it launched in Lewis’ department store 140 years ago.

Santa will arrive in Liverpool in style this Friday, November 15 to celebrate the famous grotto’s return to St John’s this weekend.

Flying into Liverpool John Lennon Airport this Friday, Santa will be heading to schools across Liverpool on the World Famous Grotto open top bus.

The following day, Saturday, November 16, Santa and his elves will be making their way to key locations across Merseyside, including Tranmere Rovers Football Club, Goodison Park and Anfield .

Onlookers will be able to spot Santa on his tour of the city before Santa makes his way towards St John’s Shopping Centre where the World Famous Grotto will officially be opened.

10.30am - Birkenhead Town Hall

10.40am - Birkenhead Priory

10.55am - Tranmere Rovers

11.15am - Charing Cross

11.50am - Birkenhead Park (there will be a photo opportunity here for 15 minutes)

The World Famous Grotto, which moved to St John’s in 2017, will feature festive recreations of iconic Lewis’ displays such as Fairyland from 1879 and Peter Pan from 1935.

The grotto will be open on Saturday, November 16 from 9am to 6pm and cost £12 per child and £2 per adult.
