Liverpool news: Reds receive Jude Bellingham transfer boost as Mo Salah gives verdict

Liverpool are back to winning ways and the mood at Anfield has been bumped up.

The Reds secured a much-needed 2-0 victory over Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday, with goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah boosting their chances of reaching the knockout rounds.

Although the season hasn't started as Jurgen Klopp would've imagined, plenty of green shoots can be found and Liverpool's future still looks bright. So much so, a certain Jude Bellingham could be on his way to Merseyside and the Reds have just received a fresh boost in the hotly-contested race for the English wonderkid, who's set to leave Borussia Dortmund next summer.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Anfield.

Reds receive Bellingham boost

Liverpool now have one less club to compete with in the battle to sign Jude Bellingham. Bayern Munich director Oliver Kahn has ruled his side out of the race, having previously been tipped to extend their record of signing Borussia Dortmund's best players by snapping up the 19-year-old midfielder.

Bellingham - who's recently been captaining Dortmund in Marco Reus' absence - is expected to leave the club next summer after three superb seasons, with Liverpool believed to be among the suitors. But Bayern won't be in the running, according to Kahn, who confirmed to BILD : "Of course Jude Bellingham for me is an outstanding player. However, with [Joshua] Kimmich, [Leon] Goretzka, [Marcel] Sabitzer and [Ryan] Gravenberch, we're very well equipped in this position. So we're not thinking about that at all."

Salah gives verdict on new setup

Mohamed Salah has given Jurgen Klopp's change of system his seal of approval. Liverpool lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation for the win against Rangers, with Diogo Jota in behind Darwin Nunez, and Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara as a midfield pivot - significantly different to how they shape-up in their standard 4-3-3.

Assessing Klopp's switch, Salah explained to UEFA : "The gaffer told us yesterday about the formation and we just tried to adapt. I think it was working well, we created many chances in the first half and second half, we tried to score. It's an offensive formation. It was good for all of us up front, especially because we all want to score goals. It worked well today."

Alonso appointed Leverkusen boss

Xabi Alonso has been appointed the new manager of Bayern Leverkusen in his first major coaching role. The former Reds midfielder, who spent five years at Anfield from 2004 to 2009, has left his post as boss of Real Sociedad B to take charge of the German side.

"I know Leverkusen from my time in Germany as an excellent club. Bayer 04 have always had great players, so I see a lot of quality in the current squad," Alonso explained in a statement. "In my discussions with the club, it quickly became clear that, despite the currently difficult situation, ambitious goals are still being pursued in principle. This task appeals to me very much and I am sure that we will live up to the claim."
