Liverpool news: Klopp blamed for Mane's departure as Neville makes witty jibe

Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp have not enjoyed the best of starts to their campaign and they remain several points off the pace.

They've not played since the goalless draw in the Merseyside derby as they adapt to life after Sadio Mane, who left for Bayern Munich in the summer. His contract was winding down and he opted to leave Anfield which prompted the Reds to head into the market and add Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan has not hit the ground running, which is having an impact of the Reds' attack. Fellow new arrival Arthur is also trying to find his feet after his loan move.

Liverpool return to action this weekend against Brighton and Hove Albion and these are the latest headlines regarding the club.

Klopp blamed for Mane exit

Mane's exit from Liverpool has been blamed on Jurgen Klopp, who has been accused of showing the forward a lack of love.

The Senegal star called time on his six years at Anfield in the summer, opting to pursue a new challenge at Bayern as his Anfield contract entered its final 12 months. Mane claimed a host of honours on Merseyside, but there was always the feeling that he played second fiddle to Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian's contract talks grabbed the headlines early last season, with the Reds desperate to retain their star man. As a result Mane's future looked to have been put on the back-burner and Salif Diao, Mane's compatriot and a former Red, claims Klopp's attitude contributed to his departure.

Arthur tipped for big things

Arthur's agent has declared Liverpool can soon expect to see the best version of his client as he finally gets up to speed with life in the Premier League.

The Brazilian international, 26, joined the Reds on loan from Juventus on deadline day as Jurgen Klopp sought a short-term solution to his lack of options in midfield. Despite his trophy-winning spells in Italy and Spain with Juve and Barcelona respectively, Arthur has endured a challenging first few weeks on Merseyside.

His lack of first-team opportunities has led to suspicions that Anfield chiefs are pondering cutting short his loan spell half a season earlier than expected. However, Arthur seems to be determined to make a success of his time with Liverpool and has employed a personal fitness team to help him adapt to life in the English top flight.

G-Nev's witty Liverpool jibe

Gary Neville savagely joked that Liz Truss has “tanked the pound lower than his reputation in Liverpool ' during an appearance at the Labour Party Conference on Monday night.

The 47-year-old former Manchester United defender was a surprise guest alongside party leader Keir Starmer and shadow sport secretary Lisa Powell. He shared a number of his political views throughout the evening but it was his quips at Truss that got the crowd revved up more so than anything else.

Asked for his thoughts on the newly-appointed Conservative leader and indeed UK Prime Minister, he replied that she has “tanked the pound lower than my reputation in Liverpool”.
