Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp's new problem as wonderkid declares Anfield transfer dream

Liverpool did not get the start to the new season they wanted after scraping a 2-2 draw at the home of newly-promoted Fulham last time out.

But the spurned opportunity for three points may not be Jurgen Klopp's biggest problem as the Reds boss tries to prevent a mass injury crisis derailing Liverpool's season for the second time in three campaigns. The number of first-team stars ruled out of action is a growing concern.

Elsewhere, despite the manager's claim that Liverpool's transfer dealings were done for the summer there remains speculation that a few more additions could be introduced at Anfield before the window's close later this month. With midfield being a problem area, this is the position the Reds are most likely to strengthen in.

Mirror Football has analysed all the main talking points and current news associated with Klopp's Liverpool side.

First-team regular Joel Matip is reportedly the latest Liverpool star to sustain an injury and potentially rule himself out of Monday night's clash with Crystal Palace at home.

The Telegraph report that the centre-back has picked up a groin problem and now joins fellow defender Ibrahima Konate on the treatment table.

Klopp had previously claimed that Liverpool would make no more signings after the acquisitions of Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsey, but that was before the injuries started to pile-up.

"I'm happy with the strength and quality of my squad," he said on Friday when asked if he would enter the transfer market.

"But we have injuries, that's how it is. The question is how long the players are out and there are different solutions. One is the transfer market but only makes sense if the right player."

Liverpool boast advantage in race for wonderkid

Flamengo youngster Joao Gomes admits he dreams of playing for Liverpool (Getty Images)

The Reds clearly have the upper-hand in the pursuit of highly-rated Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes's signature after he confessed his "great desire" to one day don the Liverpool shirt.

The 21-year-old was engaging with fans on his Instagram live stream when he was asked whether he has any ambition to one day try his hand in the Premier League.

He replied: "Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football."

Gomes has recently been the subject of reports linking him with a move to Manchester United, but his comments on social media may have hindered any hopes he had of an Old Trafford switch.

The Red Devils are rumoured to have sent scouts to watch the midfielder, who has already made 93 appearances for the Brazilian giants.

Klopp claims eases Salah fears

The Reds boss has insisted his main-man has already struck up a partnership with new recruit Darwin Nunez, easing fears Mohamed Salah would struggle without Sadio Mane this term.

With the Senegal international upping sticks to Bayern Munich, Liverpool forked out quite the fee to entice Nunez into moving to Merseyside - where he has formed a bond with Salah already according to Klopp.

"It's a cool partnership, definitely," the German coach explained. "They are both determined to score and be in the decisive areas. Mo is in a really good moment. Darwin is settling in."

Both players got on the scoresheet against Fulham on the opening weekend, with Nunez assisting Salah to poke home a vital equaliser in the second-half.
