Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp's boost for Premier League season as Diogo Jota claim made

Liverpool are ready to do it all over again as the new Premier League season dawns.

The Reds get their campaign under way with a trip to face Fulham on Saturday, hoping to go one better than finishing as runners-up last term. Jurgen Klopp has already bolstered his squad with the arrival of Darwin Nunez for what could end up being a club-record transfer fee worth £85million, alongside young stars Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay.

But while it all looks good on paper, it'll when the whistle blows at Craven Cottage that Liverpool will have to show their credentials to reclaim the English crown from Manchester City and win the title as they did in 2020. Recent, the Reds have been buoyed by Diogo Jota signing a new five-year contract, but another boost could come down the line.

With that in mind, here's the latest news from Anfield.

Carragher highlights title charge boost

Jamie Carragher has explained that Liverpool having fewer players heading to the World Cup can be seen as a boost to their chances of reclaiming the Premier League title.

The Reds legend admits that Manchester City are the favourites to retain their crown this season, but the 2022-23 campaign being bisected by the month-long tournament offers some of Jurgen Klopp's team time to refuel. Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz are among those not heading to Qatar and can rest before the season recommences on Boxing Day.

Carragher, speaking on the Overlap, in partnership with Sky Bet, highlighted: "I don't know about City to be honest; it might be the same, not going to the World Cup. So, Luis Diaz is not going, Salah's not going. I don't really know City, but there's a few decent players sort of from Liverpool I think, you know, could that make a difference in the second half of the season."

Fans could take legal action

A law firm in the United Kingdom is investigating the potential of launching a group legal action against UEFA on behalf of Liverpool fans who were caught up in the chaos of the Champions League final in Paris.

Leigh Day have stated that it has been investigating the potential claim for individuals who suffered physical or psychological injuries, having been contacted by a number of supporters since the incident on May 28 at the Stade de France. The firm said that it believes 5,000 to 10,000 people could be affected and would be able to join the claim, which is to allege that UEFA failed to ensure a safe and secure environment for those attending the match.

Klopp reacts to new Jota deal

Jurgen Klopp has claimed that Diogo Jota has the ability to play in four different positions after the forward signed a new contract, keeping at Anfield until 2027.

Speaking to Liverpool's website upon news being announced, Klopp explained: "He has the technical skills, he has the physical skills and he is very smart and can learn all the tactical stuff pretty quick. On top of that, he can play all three positions; in a 4-2-3-1 he could play as the 10. So, it is very helpful."

The Reds boss added: "What Diogo has brought to this team and this club since he arrived is there for all to see, so it is really good news that he has signed a new contract. Brilliant, brilliant news, I would say."
