Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp praises Jarrod Bowen and issues injury update for West Ham clash

Liverpool can close the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City to just three points if they beat West Ham at Anfield on Saturday.

The Hammers are enjoying an impressive season and Jarrod Bowen's performances in particular have caught Jurgen Klopp's eye; with the Reds boss revealing his admiration for the winger.

Klopp also revealed that his side will be without Joel Matip's for the visit of David Moyes' side and that Thiago Alcantara is also likely to miss the clash.

Mohamed Salah will be confident of adding to his magnificent goal tally on Saturday, the Egyptian has struck 27 times across all competitions this season.

However, despite his spectacular form over the last year or so he finished seventh in the 2021 Ballon d'Or awards, and Salah has admitted his 'shock' at his ranking after being named by many as a potential winner.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Liverpool headlines.

Klopp hails Bowen

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made overtures to Jarrod Bowen for the second time by labelling the West Ham forward "unbelievable".

Bowen, 25, is enjoying a sensational season with 12 goals and 11 assists for the Irons, whom he joined in a £25million transfer from Hull City in January 2020.

It is no surprise the Englishman is turning heads and Klopp pointed out his eye-catching talent ahead of a Premier League clash at the London Stadium back in November.

"I like Bowen a lot," the German said. "He made his way up from Hull and took not too long to show exactly what kind of player he can be in the Premier League. He made big steps."

Klopp issues injury update

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will be without Joel Matip and probably Thiago Alcantara for Saturday's Premier League clash at home to West Ham.

Centre-back Matip was rested for Wednesday's FA Cup win at home to Norwich City, but he has since picked up an illness.

Thiago was forced out of last Sunday’s Carabao Cup final with a hamstring injury he sustained in the warm-up, and although it isn't thought to be too serious he is likely to sit out the visit of David Moyes' men.

Klopp added that Curtis Jones, who was taken off at half-time against Norwich, and Naby Keita, who picked up an injury at Wembley, are also uncertain to face the Hammers.

Salah on his Ballon d’or position

Mo Salah admits he was "shocked" to have finished seventh in the Ballon d'Or rankings having been touted as a possible winner.

The Golden Ball was handed out in November and, once again, was claimed by Lionel Messi, who now has seven.

Robert Lewandowski proved to be his closest competition with many feeling as if the Pole deserved the individual gong.

However, such was his sensational form for Liverpool, Salah was seen as something of an outside bet.
