Leipzig talking points
Darwin Nunez was the star man as Liverpool thrashed German outfit RB Leipzig in their pre-season friendly on Thursday night.
Liverpool took the lead through Mohamed Salah in the first half before Reds manager Jurgen Klopp brought Nunez on at half time. Nut Liverpool were also lucky to go into the break in front with prolific striker Christopher Nkunku testing Adrian in the Reds' goal.
Naby Keita also missed a couple of chances for his side, before Nunez stole the show. Mirror Football has all of the biggest talking points from the game.
Klopp's Nunez verdict
Jurgen Klopp has shared his verdict on Darwin Nunez after the forward finally got his Anfield career up and running.
The Uruguayan had struggled through his two previous pre-season games, failing to get on the scoresheet against Manchester United and Crystal Palace. But speaking after Nunez bagged four goals against RB Leipzig, Klopp heaped praise on his forward acknowledging he may have felt pressure following his big-money move but "that’s the best way obviously to stop all these discussions".
He also pointed out Nunez is "a different striker to what we have or what we had", hinted that Klopp may think he brings different attributes to his side than Sadio Mane did before his move to Bayern Munich.
Konate struggles
Ibrahima Konate was one of the few Liverpool players who failed to impress during the 5-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig.
The Frenchman looked vulnerable to the counter-attack and his poor touch allowed reigning Bundesliga player of the year Christopher Nkunku in as he came close to equalising towards the end of the first half. Roberto Firmino was also one of the Reds' losers of the night as Darwin Nunez took his chance to impress in the first team and potentially take the Brazilian's starting spot.
There were plenty of winners for the Reds as well though, alongside star striker Nunez. Salah was once again among the goals and he will be hoping to carry that goalscoring form into the season.
And Harvey Elliot shone as he laid on Nunez's hat-trick goal. Mirror Football has taken a look at all of the winners and losers from the night.
