Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp faces selection puzzle amid Trent Alexander-Arnold advice

Liverpool may well have been thankful this weekend's round of Premier League fixtures was postponed as they continue to sieve through the debris of their apocalypse in Naples.

The Reds were on the receiving end of their heaviest defeat for some time in a humiliating display against Napoli, causing Jurgen Klopp to admit his side was in need of reinvention after the 4-1 loss. His men must now dust themselves down for the visit of Ajax on Tuesday before a difficult trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday in what will be Graham Potter's first Premier League match in charge of Chelsea.

With two tricky fixtures to come, Klopp may well decide to freshen things up with his lineup, particularly as he ponders notable problems with his current XI.

Here is the latest Liverpool news, from Mirror Football .

Alexander-Arnold told how to address slump

One of Liverpool's biggest under-performers in recent weeks has been full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose display midweek has come in for plenty of scrutiny.

With the World Cup on the horizon, the 23-year-old is now under pressure to find his best form quickly, or risk facing omission from Gareth Southgate's squad for Qatar.

The teenage midfielder has been one of the standout players for his side this season, though it has become apparent Liverpool are weaker defensively after making amendments to their system.

Stats show Elliott can tend to favour defensive movements on the right flank, rather than in central areas, leaving Klopp with a conundrum as his other midfield options begin to return to fitness.

With midfielders on the brain constantly at the moment for Klopp, he will no doubt be buoyed by latest comments regarding transfer target Jude Bellingham.

The 19-year-old is highly admired by Klopp, with many feeling Liverpool's reluctance to buy a midfielder this summer was due to a long-term strategy which could see them bid for Bellingham next year.

Now Real Madrid's former Bayern Munich star David Alaba has given his views on the Borussia Dortmund man, labelling his old rival as "one of the greatest midfield talents in the world."
