Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp dealt major injury blow as Sadio Mane makes Bayern Munich vow

Liverpool were cruelly pipped to the Premier League crown by Manchester City on the final day last term, but Jurgen Klopp's side are raring to go one better this year.

The Reds kick off the new top-flight campaign with a trip to promoted Fulham, but Klopp could have to negotiate some major selection issues ahead of Liverpool's trip to the capital.

Elsewhere, the Liverpool chief has insisted that the Reds transfer business is done after shelling out mega-bucks on a club-record deal for Darwin Nunez. However, speculation linking the club with midfielders still persists ahead of this weekend's season opener. Here is all the latest news from Anfield.

Klopp dealt major injury blow

Liverpool will be without Ibrahima Konate for their curtain-raising clash against Fulham on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has evolved into a key performer for the Reds since he arrived at Anfield in a £36million deal last summer, but Konate will sit out the trip to Craven Cottage after he picked up a knock in the friendly against Strasbourg.

As well as Konate, Klopp will also be without the services of Curtis Jones, who is nursing a calf injury that he sustained in Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend. It is expected that the issue will keep Jones on the sidelines for around four weeks.

Mane makes Bayern Munich vow

Sadio Mane is adamant that Bayern Munich will down his old club if they end up locking horns in the Champions League this year.

After failing to agree on a new deal at Anfield, Mane was given the green light to join Bayern Munich in a shock £35m switch earlier this summer. The Senegalese striker was a pivotal figure during his fruitful six-year stay on Merseyside - and even helped the Reds dump Bayern out of the Champions League on their march to European glory back in 2019.

However, the 30-year-old is ready to help Bayern avenge that defeat in the battle for European supremacy this year. He told the official Bundesliga newsletter: “I said maybe my favourite but now I would say second favourite goal, not my first, because he’s my teammate. No, I’m joking… Of course, I think it was a good goal, kind of a good goal. We had a good game. This is behind us. If we’re going to meet again, of course as Bayern Munich we’d beat Liverpool.”

Alexander-Arnold opens up on aims

Trent Alexander-Arnold has opened up on his aims ahead of the new Premier League campaign - with the England star aiming to top the creative charts again for Liverpool.

The full-back clocked up a staggering 19 assists for the Reds last year and is bidding to better that tally this term; even though he'll be relying on his teammates to finish off the chances he creates.

“One part of me wants to be the highest assist-maker in the league every season," Alexander-Arnold explained. "But an assist relies on people converting the chance. So my thinking is also: if I can be the top chance creator then that is solely on me. That’s in my mind as well going into the new season.”
