Jota's "dreams collapsed"
Diogo Jota has opened up after being ruled out of the upcoming World Cup. Liverpool had earlier confirmed the news, with the Portugal star forced off before full-time against Manchester City on Sunday and manager Jurgen Klopp describing his mood as "surprisingly OK".
"After such a good night at Anfield mine ended in the worst way!" Jota wrote on social media "In the last minute one of my dreams collapsed."
The forward, who joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, suffered a calf strain towards the end of Sunday's victory. He had already seen his season interrupted by injury, missing the start of the campaign, and will now be forced to watch on from afar as Portugal begin their World Cup campaign against Ghana on November 24.
Klopp responds to xenophobia claims
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes his comments after Sunday's game may have been misinterpreted after claims some of his words were "borderline xenophobic". The former Borussia Dortmund boss had faced a backlash after speaking out about Manchester City's financial backing from Abu Dhabi.
"This kind of question I would like not to answer," the German said when quizzed on the matter. "Everything a non-native English speaker would say would be open to misinterpretation.
"It should not [detract from result]. We don't have to be best friends but I am sure anyone wants to be with us. It's normal competition. It started here with the question, I answered, the rest was made of it."
Liverpool boss charged
Jurgen Klopp has been charged by the FA following his red card over the weekend. The manager was sent off by referee Anthony Taylor towards the end of the Reds' hard-fought victory.
“Jurgen Klopp has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 following the Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester City on Sunday,” a statement from the Football Association reads. “It is alleged that the Liverpool manager’s behaviour during the 86th minute of this game was improper and he has until Friday to provide a response.”
Liverpool's manager revealed he spoke "calmly" with Taylor after the game. "[We spoke about] how I saw the game, how he saw the game. It was a completely calm discussion," he said.
