Liverpool Muay Thai fighter Alex Kenton has shot at UK number one spot

Liverpool-based Muay Thai fighter Alex Kenton is aiming to become number one in the UK's bantamweight rankings.

2022 was an excellent year for the young fighter as he climbed the rankings to number two with four wins. And now he wants the top spot.

Current number one Tyree Stevens and Kenton have recently developed a rivalry. The two have called out one another on various occasions throughout the last year - in the ring and via social media.

Following Kenton's devastating stoppage victory in November over his last opponent, Dom Hill, the Scouser said to the camera as he adamantly announced: "Tyree, I am coming for you, lad."

Stevens replied less than a month after Kenton's win with a victory of his own. Taking to the mic, he said: "Alex Kenton, if you are watching this, bring the smoke."

Since then, the bout between the top two has been confirmed for March 18 at the Royal Court Hotel in Coventry.

The number one, Stevens, currently holds a world ranking. Therefore, Kenton has his eyes set on that international status.

"I think Tyree is ranked 20th in the world, so I don't know how the world rankings work, but hopefully, if I beat him, I get his rank," he said.

The sport of Muay Thai is ever-growing in the city of Liverpool, and a fighter ranked top of the entire UK would perfectly display that.
