Liverpool 'monitoring' Joao Gomes as Moises Caicedo transfer prediction made

Liverpool are yet to make any official approaches for Joao Gomes - but their scouts have reportedly been keeping an eye on the Flamengo midfielder.

The highly-rated midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League after impressing in Brazil. As well as Liverpool, Manchester United have also been linked with the 21-year-old.

Last month a question was put to Gomes on Instagram live on the possibility of moving to the Premier League and, in particular, Liverpool.

"Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play,” said Gomes, via ESPN Brazil. "Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

And journalist Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Liverpool have monitored Gomes but, at the moment, there’s nothing else to the speculation linking the midfielder with a move to Anfield.

“Liverpool have monitored Gomes with their scouts as many other top European clubs did, at the moment there’s nothing else to this story, no official bid or negotiation,” he wrote in his CaughtOffside column.

“I think he’s a very good player but he needs some steps before being ready for Liverpool level.”

While in the same column, Romano believes Moises Caicedo, who was linked with a summer move to Liverpool, is unlikely to leave Brighton & Hove Albion as early as January.

He said: “I think it’d be great for them to work together again, Caicedo is a brilliant player but Brighton project deserves some respect, so I’m not sure they will be open to let Caicedo go already in January.”
