Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita 'enters talks' as contract decision looms

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has entered talks with Galatasaray over a move in the summer, according to reports in Turkey.

The Guinean is out of contract at Anfield in the summer and as the clock ticks down on his time on Merseyside, he can now enter talks ahead of the next move. His time with the Reds has been impacted by numerous injuries as he has struggled to live up to the billing that he arrived to the Premier League with.

Keita is among a number of midfielders likely to leave the club at the end of the season. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been linked with a move away with Brighton and Hove Albion among the clubs to be interested in the former Arsenal midfielder.

According to Turkish publication A Spor, Okan Buruk's side are in talks with Keita. The current winter transfer window is set to close in a matter of days for clubs within Turkey, however it has been said that they have already started preparations for the end of the season.

As was the case with Georginio Wijnaldum's exit, as the 27-year-old enters the final six months of his current deal with Jurgen Klopp's squad, he can enter negotiations with clubs from overseas.

The Lions have reached out to Keita's representatives, expressing a desire to sign him, according to the report from A Spor, with negotiations still in their early stages. He has made 10 appearances this term, starting the last three matches after impressing in the win over Wolves.

"And not replace him? No, that’s not possible, of course not. But it’s not the plan," the Liverpool boss said in August 2022 when asked about the prospect of selling him.

"We are not dumb that we think a player can go and we don’t replace him. No, there’s no chance. So, Naby will not go but if he would – what he will not do – there must be a replacement, of course."
