Liverpool make transfer stance clear as Nottingham Forest 'in talks' over £15m move

Nottingham Forest are reportedly ‘in talks’ over a move for Liverpool full-back Neco Williams.

The 21-year-old full-back spent the second half of last season at Fulham, where he helped Marco Silva’s side achieve promotion to the Premier League as champions. Williams made 14 appearances at right-back, scoring two goals and providing a further two assists, and has become a key part of Rob Page’s Wales side

Prior to his move to Craven Cottage, the Wales international had made eight appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as back-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, his chances of playing a larger role at Anfield have been reduced following the signing of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen, leading to reports that Williams is available for £15 million this summer.

In somewhat of a transfer merry-go-round, it was Forest that provided Ramsay’s replacement at Aberdeen through Jayden Richardson. NottinghamshireLive understands that Neco Williams is of interest to the club as former loanee Djed Spence is being heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Telegraph has reported that Forest are ‘in talks’ over a move for Williams, though a fee is yet to be agreed. Fulham are also described as being ‘in the chase’ to sign the right-back, with reports on Wednesday suggesting that Marco Silva’s side were ‘preparing’ their own bid in the region of £10m.

However, it is stated that Liverpool will demand a permanent transfer for the young defender this summer. The club is said to be ‘reluctant to sanction a loan’ deal, with an initial fee of £15m still set as his valuation at Anfield.

If Steve Cooper does opt to sign Williams as an alternative to Spence, who played a pivotal role for the club last season, then Forest may face some added competition. Southampton and PSV Eindhoven are two clubs that have also been linked with a move for the versatile Liverpool full-back.
