Liverpool make Joe Gomez transfer U-turn amid Aston Villa's £30m interest

Steven Gerrard looks set to have a new-look side ready for Aston Villa's curtain-raiser after being very active early on in the transfer window.

But fans are excited at the prospect of even more transfer business ahead of their first game against Bournemouth as the Villa boss splashes the cash of the club's wealthy owners. Boubacar Kamara signed on a free transfer from Marseille just after the end of last season and has since been joined by Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos, while Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen have made their loan moves permanent.

Trezeguet has followed Matt Targett and Lovre Kalinic out of the door after completing his move to Trabzonspor but there continues to be reports surrounding Douglas Luiz’s future. Mirror Sport takes a look at the latest Villa transfer news and rumours.

New Liverpool transfer guru to keep Gomez

The Reds' newly-appointed sporting director Julian Ward replaced former boss Michael Edwards this summer at Anfield and is now looking to tie down Joe Gomez on a new deal.

Gomez, 25, is in talks over a new deal to head off interest from clubs Mirror Football understands and negotiations are on-going.

Gomez faces stiff competition from both Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip, and has also suffered several injury setbacks in recent seasons, which saw the England international start just four games for the Reds in the Premier League last season.

Yet despite his lack of action and regular speculation over a summer move to Villa, Gomez has now entered contract negotiations with Liverpool to extend his stay at the club with his current deal set to expire in 2024.

Italian giants step up interest in Luiz

AC Milan have reportedly ‘opened talks’ with Aston Villa over a move for Douglas Luiz.

It has now been reported by the Daily Mail , via Goal, that Milan have “opened direct talks” with Villa over a move for Luiz. The deal is said to be “worth up to £26million” and that the player’s representatives are “confident” of sealing a move to the San Siro.

Steven Gerrard had spoken of his desire to tie Luiz to a new deal but the ex-Manchester City midfielder is yet to put pen to paper. Villa now risk losing him for free next summer and are reportedly “willing to lower their asking price” in the hopes of securing a fee for Luiz, who is said to “prefer” the chance to play Champions League football with Serie A champions Milan.

PSV Eindhoven’s Ibrahim Sangare tipped as Luiz replacement

Aston Villa will be making plans for life without Douglas Luiz and footballfancast reckon PSV Eindhoven’s Ibrahim Sangare is the ideal candidate .

With 173 appearances for the Dutch side and his previous club Toulouse, the 24-year-old Ivory Coast ace has scored seven goals and delivered 11 assists in the process.

Last season saw the midfielder play more minutes in the Eredivisie than any other player at his current side.

In his 29 league appearances, the 24-year-old, who is currently valued at £21.6m according to Transfermarkt, made more interceptions (72) and won more tackles (64) than any other PSV player.

He impressed against Leicester in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals and is a central midfielder who has been linked with a switch to Villa previously.
