Liverpool make Diogo Jota and Thiago decisions as Jurgen Klopp confirms changes for Ajax

Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara return for Liverpool as they host Ajax in the Champions League.

Jota hasn't started a game this season after suffering a reoccurrence of a hamstring injury during an early training session in Thailand back in mid-July but is back up top as the Reds host the Dutch giants at Anfield.

The Portugal international's most recent start for the Reds came on the final day of last season's Premier League against his former club Wolves, but Jota is named ahead of both Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino this evening as Jurgen Klopp aims to get his Group A campaign up and running.

Thiago is also back in the midfield three having made his comeback in the 4-1 defeat at Napoli last week. The Spain international, who missed over a month with a muscle problem, was a second-half substitute in Naples but is back in the engine room from the start alongside Fabinho and Harvey Elliott.

Elsewhere, Joel Matip starts for the first time since the opening game of the season at Fulham as he partners Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool's defence, while Kostas Tsimikas deputises for the injured Andy Robertson.

Arthur Melo, Stefan Bajcetic and James Milner are the midfield options for Klopp on the bench, while Fabio Carvalho is also back in the match-day squad having missed the Napoli game with a dead leg suffered in the Merseyside derby.
