Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is on Liverpool’s shortlist as they prepare for life without Sadio Mane.
But the highly-rated Uruguay international is one of several forwards being assessed with the Reds unwilling to pay over the odds in their attempt to continue evolving their attack.
Nunez has emerged as one of the leading names being discussed by Liverpool recruitment team after his reputation skyrocketed during an outstanding season with Benfica.

He scored 34 goals in 41 appearances and caught the eye when netting in the 3-3 draw at Anfield in the Champions League quarter-final in April.
Liverpool are assessing a number of possible targets given they are braced for the potential departure of Mane. They have already rejected a £25million bid from Bayern Munich for the Senegalese.
The 22-year-old Nunez fits the profile of the player Liverpool are seeking as they look to drive down the average age of their forward line.
And with Divock Origi departing this summer, the ability of Nunez to play down the centre is seen as a useful option. There were claims over the weekend the player would favour a move to Anfield.
Liverpool, though, are unwilling to pay over the odds for the Nunez, who has been linked with £85million interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United.
The Reds have a number of players they continue to track as they look for the best value transfer to bolster their attack this summer.
