Liverpool linked with surprise £71m Aurelien Tchouameni move as Jurgen Klopp 'convinced'

Liverpool missed out on the signing of Aurelien Tchouameni last summer but could reportedly renew their interest in the midfielder in the coming weeks.

The 23-year-old emerged as a player of interest for Jurgen Klopp towards the end of last campaign, but it was Real Madrid who won the race to secure the services of the former Monaco man.

Since making the move to Spain, Tchouameni started five of Real's opening La Liga matches but has been limited to appearances from the bench in recent weeks.

Assessing the success of this transfer to date, El Nacional state this is a move that has 'not yet yielded results'. The article adds the Frenchman 'hasn't lived up to expectations' and has also experienced 'injury and attitude issues'.

As a result, Los Blancos are said to be considering the sale of the Frenchman as they 'cannot afford the luxury of having a player who cost so much money on the bench'.

Jurgen Klopp reportedly remains 'convinced' the ex-Monaco man would represent a great signing and is willing to make an offer worth £71million. The intentions of Tchouameni remain 'unknown' as he approaches the end of his first full campaign in the Spanish capital, however.

Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements of this area of the pitch and will be hoping to add quality options to the squad in the months ahead. Jude Bellingham remains a priority target, though the Reds are set to face competition from a number of clubs for the Borussia Dortmund star.
