Liverpool linked with midfielder as Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville agree on prediction

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Wednesday, January 25.

Liverpool 'leading race' to sign £35m midfielder

There has been an update on the future of reported Liverpool transfer target Sofyan Amrabat.

Amrabat has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool over the last few months. The Reds were first credited with an interest in the player during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 26-year-old starred for Morocco at the tournament in the Middle East. Amrabat helped his country reach the semi-final of the tournament, eventually losing to runner-sup France.

According to Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato, Liverpool are now the club leading the race to sign Amrabat. However, it is added that any deal will not be possible until the summer at the earliest.

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville agree on Liverpool prediction

Liverpool will fail to qualify for the Champions League this season for the first time since 2016, according to both Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.

The Sky Sports pundits were asked to make their mid-season predictions for the eventual outcome in the Premier League and neither backed Jurgen Klopp's men to finish in the top four - one of the few points that they actually agreed on.

Former Manchester United defender Neville, who tipped Manchester City to catch Arsenal and picked his old club to finish as runners-up ahead of the Gunners, queried the Reds' absence from Carragher's list.

Discussing their picks on Monday Night Football Neville said: "Have you ruled your mob out of it?" Carragher replied: "No I don't think Liverpool will get top four."

Neville argued: "They're only 10 points behind with a game in hand?" to which Carragher responded: "Only 10 points? How many points until you say someone can't do something? Liverpool are not playing well enough."
