Liverpool lineups as Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota decisions made for Chelsea in Carabao Cup final

Ian Doyle - Luis Diaz starts

Carabao Cup final day, and there are few difficult decisions for Jurgen Klopp.

In fact, the Liverpool team almost picks itself against Chelsea.

Which, given there are very few absentees, is a sign the Reds know their strongest team.

In goal, though, it's Caoimhin Kelleher, reward for his patience and performances when called upon.

Joel Matip has edged ahead of Ibrahima Konate again at the heart of defence alongside Virgil van Dijk, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are the full-backs.

In midfield, Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara are certainties. And experience and impressive recent form means Jordan Henderson takes the third slot.

INTERVIEW: Fabinho makes Thiago Silva request and raises 'important' midfield point

Up front, it's not worth risking Diogo Jota from the start. So Mohamed Salah is on the right, Sadio Mane down the middle and new signing Luis Diaz filling the left flank.

Mind you, with five substitutions allowed, expect Liverpool to have plenty of wriggle room should things start to go awry.

My team (4-3-3): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Thiago, Henderson; Salah, Mane, Diaz.

Paul Gorst - Jordan Henderson given the nod

So today is the day, then; Liverpool’s first domestic cup final since 2016.

And the good news is Jurgen Klopp has virtually a full squad to choose from, barring Roberto Firmino, who is a big absentee.

Diogo Jota’s fitness update from Pep Lijnders was more heartening on Friday, but I still expect the Portugal international to be reserved for bench duty today.

At the back, I don’t envision too many changes other than Caoimhin Kelleher coming in for Alisson Becker, which is a decision Klopp made over a month ago.

I expect Joel Matip to start alongside Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson ahead of Kostas Tsimikas.

In midfield, I’m starting Jordan Henderson alongside Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho. The captain has not been in blistering form since the turn of the year but a couple of good cameos off the bench against Norwich and Leeds have led to two assists.

That midfield battle will be so important in the big open spaces of Wembley.

My team (4-3-3): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago; Salah, Mane, Diaz.

Richard Garnett - Luis Diaz can deliver glory

Jurgen Klopp has made it abundantly clear that he will start with Caoimhin Kelleher in goal for the League Cup final and although he wouldn't be my pick, that decision is made and so into my team he goes.

Should it come to it, Kelleher's recent decent record in penalty shoot-outs could prove to be a deciding factor.

The Reds have the best full-back pairing in European football in the shape of Trent and Robbo, so there are no surprises from me, with Alexander-Arnold and Robertson assuming right-back and left-back positions respectively.

In the heart of defence, Virgil van Dijk is paired with Joe Matip. Maybe they'll not only prevent Chelsea from scoring but find the net again at the other end, just like they did against Leeds?

Klopp has a number of different options in midfield, but a big game calls for big players and here I think he needs to go with a solid platform to get a grip of this match.

Fabinho is in to protect the back four, flanked by captain Jordan Henderson and the in-form Thiago, who's eye for a threaded pass could be key today when it comes to unlocking a solid Chelsea defence.

Up front, Mohamed Salah is a shoo-in on the right, but with Diogo Jota only just coming back from injury I would be tempted to go with Sadio Mane through the middle and hand a cup final start to Luis Diaz.

The Colombian has star quality and there is no reason to believe that he can't deliver it on the biggest stage.

With Jota and Divock Origi waiting in the wings on the bench, Klopp will have sufficient attacking options if his plan A doesn't put the Reds in the driving seat.

My team (4-3-3): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago; Salah, Mane, Diaz.

Charlotte Coates - Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho must start

What is better than waking up to cup final day? Not much if you ask me.

The Reds are 90 minutes away from securing their first domestic trophy in a decade as they take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.

Jurgen Klopp has some tough decisions to make and he has a squad full of talent to choose from today.

In goal is confirmed to be Caoimhin Kelleher. The Irishman has been Liverpool's shot stopper throughout the competition and that will continue in the final.

Midfield is where Klopp has decisions to make, but Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho must start.

Skipper Jordan Henderson will take the third place in the middle as he hopes to bring out the Hendo shuffle at full-time.

With Roberto Firmino injured and Diogo Jota a doubt, the forward three will remain Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

My team (4-3-3): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago; Salah, Mane, Diaz.
