Liverpool line-ups against Tottenham as Thiago returns and Diogo Jota replaced

Paul Gorst - Konate slots back in and Thiago starts

A rest for Ibrahima Konate aside, it's been as you were for the last four matches for a Liverpool team seemingly finding consistency at the business end of the campaign.

I expect Konate to return this afternoon in place of Joel Matip, whose match-winning contribution at West Ham on Wednesday night was a welcome return for the centre-back. Jurgen Klopp suggested France international Konate was merely being rested, so I think he will come back to provide a real stronghold on that right side of the defence where Trent Alexander-Arnold will be given license to roam into midfield. Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson complete my back four.

In midfield, does Thiago Alcantara return? That's the big question for me. I think Curtis Jones has made a strong fist of things of late after his return to the team and there is an argument to say his natural inclination to move to the left enables Alexander-Arnold to move into the centre. I am bringing Thiago back for this one, however, Jones can rest up.

Up top, there are claims for Darwin Nunez to start on the left of the front three. He terrorised Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December in that position and while Diogo Jota has given Klopp much to think about with his return to form of late, I think this might be a good chance to let the Uruguay international run amok alongside Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Thiago, Henderson; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez.

Ian Doyle - Thiago comes in with more changes made

Any Liverpool supporter worrying about their team’s campaign can always take solace in one thing.

Tottenham are usually having an even worse time.

This season has been no different, although the pair of them will be scrapping over the same prize - European qualification - when they meet at Anfield today.

And it’s time for some changes for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Ibrahima Konate can come back in for midweek match-winner Joel Matip alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-back, while the rest of the defence remains the same. That means Alisson Becker in goal, Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back and Andy Robertson left-back.

Midfield needs rotation. Thiago Alcantara can come in on an a left-sided role while Fabinho remains the anchor and Curtis Jones offers some legs by shifting right.

Up top, Darwin Nunez can replace the sore Diogo Jota on the left while Cody Gakpo is down the centre and Mohamed Salah on the right.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Thiago, Jones; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez.

Theo Squires - Midfield unchanged if they are ready to go again

Liverpool could find themselves 10 points off the top four by the time they kick off against Tottenham Hotspur. While the possibility of Champions League football next season continues to fade, they can’t afford any slip-ups in the final weeks of the season.

The inverted full-back formation continues with Trent Alexander-Arnold stepping into midfield alongside Fabinho when the Reds are on the ball. Ibrahima Konate returns in defence in place of Joel Matip to offer pacier protection against a side Jurgen Klopp considers to be, on their day, the best counter-attacking outfit in Europe.

If the midfield are all fit, they remain unchanged with Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones again operating at the top of the box engine-room. Thiago Alcantara’s first start since returning from injury can wait.

Diogo Jota took a heavy blow to the back against West Ham and appeared to miss Friday’s training as a result. He can drop to the bench if not fully fit with Darwin Nunez taking his place on the left.

The Uruguayan first exploded into life on the left in the reverse fixture against Spurs back in November, setting up Mohamed Salah’s opener. Fingers crossed he can cause just as much damage today, with Luis Diaz also waiting in reserve.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Jones; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez.

Sean Bradbury - Nunez unleashed as Konate returns

Jurgen Klopp has been reluctant to tinker with his winning team in recent weeks, which is understandable as players continue to adapt to the formation tweak.

But given there are now three home matches in quick succession that policy has to change.

In defence, I would bring Ibrahima Konate back in. Lethal goalscorer Joel Matip can go again when Fulham come to town on Wednesday.

In midfield, Jordan Henderson is benched with Harvey Elliott stepping into one of the more advanced positions. It is tempting to start Thiago, but Fabinho gets the nod to stick alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold in the double pivot.

Up top, Darwin Nunez has to got to be unleashed sooner or later, so today is the day. He starts on the left, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah joining him.

My team (3-2-2-3): Alisson; Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho; Elliott, Jones; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez.

Liam Wood - Traditional formation back and so is Nunez

Four straight victories have Liverpool cooking for the run-in, but while it might be too little too late to revive their Champions League ambitions, qualifying for the Europa League is their new objective and they can take a significant leap towards doing that by picking up three points against a side above them in Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and his hybrid role has been hot-topic over the last few games, but his defensive work out of position will be important against Son Heung-min on that particular side.

It might have an impact on who Jurgen Klopp selects in the engine room, or as defensive partner for Virgil van Dijk, but with only one personnel change over this winning run, structure off-the-ball is the main thing to keep an eye on.

With that ought to come a return to the more traditional 4-3-3 formation – although Darwin Nunez could be unleashed with a slight injury concern for Diogo Jota in the build-up.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Jones, Thiago; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez.
