Liverpool legend John Toshack opens up on 'terrifying' Covid experience

Former Liverpool striker John Toshack has spoken of how 'terrifying' it was to be on ventilator for two weeks in a hospital in Barcelona with Covid-19 and pneumonia.

Toshack was taken ill in Barcelona and was rushed to hospital with a combination of Covid and pneumonia, but the 73-year-old is out and back well again now.

The Welshman won two league titles with the Reds, along with a European Cup, two UEFA Cup's, an FA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup after making 172 appearances for Liverpool in an eight year spell at the club.

Toshack then went on to be a manager and most notably took the reigns for his beloved Wales and nonother than Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The ex-Red spoke about his time in hospital to BBC Sport : "I'd been seriously ill and I've recovered. Thank God I'm out and OK. When somebody tells you you were out for two weeks, it's frightening.

"You can win a championship in two weeks or get relegated! When I think back on it now it now it was, as I say, frightening, but there we are."

Leeds United assistant coach Cameron Toshack spoke about his father's time being unwell: "Recently he was rushed to hospital in Barcelona with Covid and pneumonia so he was there for a couple of days before going on to a ventilator I believe for about eight days."
