Liverpool legend Graeme Souness 'set for Sky Sports exit' as part of punditry overhaul

Former Liverpool midfielder and manager Graeme Souness is reportedly set to bow out of his punditry duties with broadcaster Sky Sports at the end of the season.

The tenacious Scot has taken his no-nonsense approach from his playing days to his analysis of Premier League fixtures over the last 10 years. Souness took up the seat in the studio after his time as Newcastle manager came to an end in 2006.

In a report from The Athletic, it has been suggested that the former Scotland international will step aside from his punditry duties with Sky Sports at the end of the season.

Previously, Souness has signed three-year terms which coincided with the broadcaster's rights to show Premier League action. However, he penned a one-year contract which sees him with Sky until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The 69-year-old has been one of the faces of their Premier League coverage, in particular their Super Sunday action. He has been a regular fixture on the panel alongside the likes of Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Micah Richards and Jamie Redknapp.

In recent years, Sky have been phasing out their traditional panel. Phil Thompson, a Champions League winner with the Reds, was one of a number of departures as Matt Le Tissier and Charlie Nicholas departed the iconic Soccer Saturday panel.

Jeff Stelling has flirted with a move away from the presenter role on the show and announced his departure last season but went back on his initial decision to cover the 2022/23 campaign. Chris Kamara has also stepped back from his role but health reasons were the factor behind his decision.

Should Souness leave his role, he will still remain in the public eye after he was confirmed as one of the pundits on talkSPORT. He is a regular fixture with Jim White and Simon Jordan on Mondays.
