Liverpool John Lennon Airport update on security queues and when to check in

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has issued an update as airports across the UK experience staff shortages and huge queues.

People travelling from Manchester and Birmingham have reported waiting in huge queues that "snake" out of terminals in recent weeks and months.

Many of the passengers have taken to social media to report the problems they've encountered at Manchester Airport this week, in a repeat of scenes from days and even weeks ago. The issues remain in the security checkpoint area with some commenting that queues have been snaking out of the security department and into the drop off area.

Staff at Manchester Airport have advised passengers to arrive at least three hours prior to their flight. This was in an attempt to reduce the extra queues.

An airport spokesman said: "The airport is continuing to advise customers to arrive three hours before their flights, and to ensure they are up-to-speed with the latest rules about what can be carried in hand luggage. At the same time, the airport is also asking passengers not to arrive earlier than this because it can lead to extra queues, and check-in and security facilities may not be open.”

People travelling from Liverpool have also been given an update. In a Facebook post on Monday, airport bosses said passengers didn't need to arrive any earlier than usual.

The post said: "While we are aware of media coverage elsewhere, we want to reassure our passengers that we continue to see 15-20 mins queues through security throughout the day and are, therefore, asking passengers to arrive no more than 2.5 hours prior to their flight departure time."
