Liverpool John Lennon Airport flights unable to land due to weather conditions

Visibility issues meant certain planes were unable to land at Liverpool Airport.

Foggy conditions on Thursday morning (October 13) resulted in planes circling over John Lennon Airport, before one returned to its destination and another was diverted to Birmingham.

A spokesperson from Liverpool Airport told the ECHO a Loganair flight from the Isle of Man circled above the airport for some time to see if the weather would improve and if it could land. However, it was unable to and it had to return to the Isle of Man.

Additionally, a private executive jet from Paris also circled above the Speke-based airport. The plane was meant to arrive in Liverpool at 7.12am but tracking from FlightRadar showed that it had not landed by 9.47am.

The plane also appeared to circle around parts of North Wales before diverting to Birmingham to land. The handling agent working on the private flight also has an operation in the West Midlands.

Despite the weather-based interruptions, flights later in the morning were able to land as usual as conditions improved. Flights to Liverpool throughout the remainder of Thursday are expected to operate as normal.
