Diogo Jota came to Liverpool’s rescue in the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night – scoring with his first touch of the ball off the bench.
The Portuguese forward has mainly been used as an option off the bench since he returned from a rib injury in the 2-2 draw with Fulham last month. He had been out of action for just shy of two months.
However, the latest Liverpool injury news update is that Jota has suffered another setback. Arne Slot admitted it will be a ‘struggle’ for Jota to feature against Brentford tomorrow.
“There’s no doubt about the fact that Jota is an important player for us,” he told reporters on Friday morning. “He was not in training yesterday (Thursday) so we have to see where he is today.
“I am not sure that he will be available for tomorrow. We have to wait and see. He felt a little niggle during the half-hour he was on (against Forest), he could finish the game but afterwards he complained a bit about it.
‘That’s why he didn’t train on Thursday. We have to see if he is available today and tomorrow. It will be a struggle to have him on the pitch tomorrow but we are hoping to see him in the near future.”
Liverpool will be hoping for a positive update on Jota on Friday so that he can at least be an option from the bench.
Liverpool Player Expected To Feature Despite Illness
In addition to the Liverpool injury news update over Diogo Jota, there has been concern over whether Luis Diaz will feature this weekend.
The Colombian football star reported a sore throat and illness this week – with the winger skipping training on Thursday.
However, as reported by the Daily Mail, Diaz is expected to recover in time to be available for selection on Saturday.
Another player available for selection is Darwin Nunez, who missed the Nottingham Forest game because of suspension.
Liverpool will hope to have a positive injury news update on Jota as soon as possible. Slot will want all the attacking firepower he can get when the Reds play Brentford at 3pm on Saturday.
