Arne Slot has confirmed that Joe Gomez is set for a spell on the sidelines in the latest Liverpool injury news update after their 5-0 thrashing of West Ham.
Liverpool Injury News: Joe Gomez Forced Off During West Ham Thrashing
Joe Gomez has impressed for Liverpool in the absence of Ibrahima Konate over recent weeks.
The England international had been linked with an exit from Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
However, he has filled in admirably for Konate who has been out with a knee injury over the past two months.
Gomez though lasted just 37 minutes against the Hammers on Sunday before he was forced off with an injury.
The defender pulled up as he was decelerating from a sprint. Gomez appeared to be holding onto the back of his leg as he was replaced by Jarell Quansah.
In an update on Gomez, Slot confirmed that the England international will be out for some time.
He told Liverpool’s official website: “You saw today an injury of Joe Gomez. If a player says he wants to stop, he has to be changed.
Just spoke to Joe Gomez in mixed zone. Says it’s a hamstring injury but doesn’t know how severe until scans. Seemed in good spirits but obviously gutted inside.

“In a sprint, then we all know it’s a hamstring and we all know it’s going take a while before he is back. I don’t know how long but he will be out for quite a bit.
“These situations can happen in a season.”
The Daily Mail reported that Gomez doesn’t know how severe the injury is until he undergoes scans. It was said that he ‘seemed in good spirits’ but was ‘gutted inside’.
When Will Ibrahima Konate Return From Injury?
All eyes will be on the return of Ibrahima Konate for Liverpool after the injury to Joe Gomez.
The Frenchman has been out with a knee injury since Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in November.
Speaking ahead of the West Ham clash, Arne Slot provided an update on Konate and Conor Bradley who has also been out with an injury.
“They will not be back for West Ham United,” remarked the Reds’ head coach.
“Then there is a week in between (before the match against Manchester United). Let’s see how close they are then. It is difficult to tell you at this moment because they don’t train with the group yet.”
If Konate isn’t ready to return, then Jarell Quansah will likely step in alongside Virgil van Dijk against Manchester United.
After an impressive breakthrough 2023-24 campaign, Quansah has struggled this term.
He was hooked off at half-time during Slot’s first league game in charge and has since found starts hard to come by.
