Liverpool are closing in on a deal to repurchase their former Melwood training ground to use for their women's team.
The Reds swapped the West Derby complex for a new £50m facility in Kirby in November 2020, with housing developer Torus paying a £10m fee for the iconic 12-acre site. In June 2021, Torus struck up a deal with Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler to ensure the existing buildings at Melwood remained in tact, with the base currently home to the Fowler Education Football Academy.
Torus also outlined plans to build 162 houses and apartments on the rest of the site however the ECHO reported in January Liverpool had opened discussions with the developer to buy Melwood back as a training base for their women's team.

In a statement at the time, the club said: "Liverpool FC is continuing to evaluate a number of sites for a possible new training ground for LFC Women. The project team has not yet made a final decision on a preferred site but will update supporters as soon as it is possible to do so."
The Athletic reported on Wednesday discussions with Torus have reached an advanced stage, with Liverpool likely to pay upwards of £10m due to the increase in the value of the land and Torus’ costs in terms of the running of the site.
The ECHO understands negotions are ongoing and the club will liase closely with the local community if they can get a deal over the the line.
Matt Beard's side finished seventh in the Women's Super League this term after securing promotion back to the top flight at the end of the 21/22 campaign. They currently train at Tranmere Rovers’ Solar Campus, however the club has been keen to secure their women's team a facility of their own, with Melwood now looking like the most likely option.
A Torus Group spokesperson told The Athletic: “We can confirm that Torus is in negotiations with LFC to reacquire the Melwood site.
“As negotiations are ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time. When we are able, we will provide an update.”
