Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard is the front-runner to take over from Sam Allardyce at Leeds United, according to some bookmakers.
The Whites appointed “Big Sam” with four fixtures remaining in a desperate attempt to retain their Premier League status. However, the gamble had little impact as Allardyce failed to win a game and Leeds were doomed to the Championship on the final day.
Relegation has thrown the club’s future into limbo, with Allardyce yet to confirm whether he will stay on as manager. A proposed full takeover from the San Francisco 49ers - expected to be completed in January - has also been cast into doubt.

Leeds fans waited 16 gruelling years to stage a Premier League return following relegation in 2004 due to financial mismanagement. Back then, United ended up heading to League One but Elland Road chiefs are determined to avoid another spell in the footballing wilderness.
BetVictor makes former Liverpool captain Gerrard the 2/1 favourite to become the next Leeds boss. The Reds legend has been out of work since his Aston Villa sacking in October.
While never managing in the Championship, doing so could provide Gerrard the perfect opportunity to establish his coaching career. His achievements at Rangers - where he won their first Scottish Premiership for 10 years - gives Gerrard credit in the bank after an underwhelming spell at Villa.
Allardyce (3/1) remains in the running and is reportedly open to staying beyond his four-game stint. However, post-match comments burying the Leeds squad for relegation have not gone down well with supporters.
Brendan Rodgers, recently sacked by Leicester City, is priced at 7/1 but may be holding out for a Premier League gig. Carlos Corberan (12/1), Paulo Fonseca and Vincent Kompany (both 16s) are listed as outsiders.
