Liverpool have already made Kylian Mbappe transfer stance clear as superstar set for PSG exit

Kylian Mbappe has rocked the football world after informing Paris Saint-Germain that he will not be renewing his contract.

The France superstar has written a letter to the Ligue 1 champions to tell them he will not be triggering the one-year extension in his current deal.

That means Mbappe will be out of contract in the summer of 2024. PSG are not willing to let the 24-year-old leave for free next summer, meaning he could be sold before the 2023-24 season kicks off.

Real Madrid have long been linked with a move for the World Cup winner and they are looking for a new forward after his France international team-mate Karim Benzema moved to Saudi Arabia.

Mbappe rejected a transfer to Madrid last summer before signing a new contract with PSG, which was initially announced as a three-year deal but which subsequently emerged as a two-year deal with an option of a third year.

Liverpool had previously been linked with a move for Mbappe. Their interest in the striker goes back to his Monaco days.

Mbappe confirmed himself he held talks with the Reds before signing a new contract in Paris a year ago. He told the Telegraph: “We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit.“

However, there appears little chance of Liverpool making a move for Mbappe even though he could now be on the market. Ian Graham, the club's outgoing director of research, admitted as much recently.

“Any statistical model will tell you that Kylian Mbappe is the best player in Europe at the moment,” said Graham (via The Guardian). “But unfortunately, financially, he’s out of Liverpool’s league. We’re looking for the best-performing players per pound.”
