Former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has said that he wishes to see the reported transfer target of his old club, Youssouf Fofana, secure a move to Liverpool.
The Premier League runners-up have so far come up short in the quest to bolster their midfield. Declan Rice was noted as a primary target and two bids, the last of which was £75 million rising to £90 million in add-ons, were rejected for the England international before Manchester City barged into the race.
According to fresh reports on Wednesday, the Gunners have made a new offer worth around £105 million for Rice.
As a result, according to L'Equipe, Mikel Arteta is exploring other cheaper targets such as AS Monaco's Fofana. Newcastle, West Ham, Inter and Roma are all providing competition to Arsenal for the Frenchman's signature, and on top of that, even former club captain Fabregas has sooner named Liverpool as a suitable destination.
Speaking to RMC Sport at the end of his two-and-a-half-year stint in the principality, the two-time Premier League champion made the transfer admission about his young team-mate.
He said: "“When I came [to AS Monaco], Thierry (Henry) and Vadim (Vasilyev) also asked me to help grow the young people.
"It was an important point. Today, I feel like I have won the respect and sympathy of this younger generation. I hope I have helped. We like each other.
"I will continue to follow them, exchange with them. I would like to see Fofana, [Sofiane] Diop or [Aurelien] Tchouameni at Bayern or Liverpool!"
Despite Fabregas' wishes almost 14 months ago, he has not got his wish with any of the aforementioned names. Tchouameni came closest last summer, whilst Fofana has not appeared as a strong candidate on any list of midfield transfer targets potentially heading to Merseyside.
Instead, the Reds have been incessantly linked to their countrymen Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone, as well as Ryan Gravenberch and Gabri Veiga.
