Liverpool handed Mason Mount transfer boost as 'withdrawn interest' claim emerges

Liverpool have reportedly been handed a major boost in their pursuit to sign Mason Mount.

With one eye on the summer transfer window already, the Reds are planning to revamp their midfield before next season. Plans to target Jude Bellingham have been shelved as Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team set their sights on multiple signings to bolster their engine room instead.

As such, several alternatives continue to be linked with a move to Anfield and Mount is very much front and centre in that regard. He only has 14 months to run on his contract at Chelsea.

Discussions to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge have stalled - prompting Liverpool and potential suitors to keep tabs on his situation - and Klopp might have been shown an open door to pursue the 24-year-old when the market reopens. But what will the England international cost?

Reports from Football Insider state Manchester City and Newcastle have 'withdrawn their interest' in Mount. According to the article, Premier League champions City will put their efforts into strengthening other positions before next campaign.

As for Saudi-backed Newcastle, meanwhile, the proposed transfer fee has been deemed 'too much' for them to splash out on a player who is nearing the end of his contract. That, seemingly, leaves Arsenal and Liverpool left to battle it out over his signature.

However, there is also mooted interest from Bayern Munich now that Thomas Tuchel, his former manager at Chelsea, has been appointed. Liverpool have also been linked with Alexis Mac Allister, Moises Caicedo, Nicolo Barella, Ryan Gravenberch, Ruben Neves and others.
