Liverpool handed major transfer boost as Fluminense president reveals he is open to Andre Trindade talks

Fluminese are open to holding talks with Liverpool over a January move for midfielder Andre Trindade.

Liverpool were linked with the Brazilian over the summer as they looked to strengthen in the middle of the pitch, but ultimately opted to sign Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch towards the end of the window.

However, Fluminese were reluctant to sell Andre in the middle of Copa Libertadores push, with the club now through to the semi-finals of the competition.

Discussing Liverpool’s interest in the 22-year-old, Fluminese president Mario Bittencourt confirmed an approach had been made by the Reds, as he opened the door to a potential January sale.

“Liverpool contacted me directly for Andre,” Bittencourt said.

“I told their director: my friend, I don’t sell Andre now. If you want to buy now to bring him in January, we can start talking. Or if you want to wait until December, we can do it.”

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool do make contact with Fluminese again, having now seemingly completed their midfielder rebuild following the departures of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner.

Alexis Mac Allister has often been used at the base of midfield in the opening weeks of the season, but he can be expected to move into a more advanced role after the international break with both Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic nearing a return from injury.
