Virgil van Dijk is not at risk of missing a potential Champions League final next month, unless he is given his marching orders in next week's second leg against Villarreal.
Liverpool take a healthy 2-0 lead into Tuesday night's game at El Madrigal and are one game away from reaching their third European Cup final in four years under Jurgen Klopp. Defender Van Dijk was booked against Villarreal just after the half hour mark for a challenge on Samuel Chukwueze.
In the Champions League, any player who receives three bookings in the early stages of the competition is suspended for the next match. However, yellow card accumulation is scrapped after the quarter-final stage and doesn't carry over into the semi-finals.

This means the only way a member of Klopp's squad could be suspended for the final showpiece in May is if they receive a red card in the second leg. Liverpool have had just one suspension in the competition this season after James Milner picked up three bookings during the group stages and missed the away leg against Inter Milan in the round-of-16.
Forwards Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota were both a yellow card away from suspension for the semi-finals, but they avoided bookings in the two quarter-final clashes against Benfica earlier this month.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson are the only other Liverpool players to have received a caution in the Champions League this season.
The yellow card rule was amended in the 2014-15 season in order to give players every opportunity to feature in the final should they make it that far.
