Liverpool goalkeeper signs new deal after first-team breakthrough

Harvey Davies has signed a contract extension with Liverpool after a summer of progress at both club and international level.

The 18-year-old shot-stopper has put pen to paper on a fresh deal having made his first appearances with the senior side during the pre-season programme.

Davies, who has been at the Academy since under-9 level, came off the bench to feature in both the win over Crystal Palace in Singapore and the 5-0 win at RB Leipzig on Thursday, keeping a clean sheet in both outings.

The homegrown goalkeeper was also part of the England U19 squad that won the European Championship earlier this month. He has travelled to Austria to take part in Liverpool's week-long training camp ahead of the new Premier League season.

Davies broke into Liverpool's U18 side in December 2019 and was a regular in the run to the FA Youth Cup final the following season, where the Reds were beaten 2-1 at Aston Villa. He also made the bench for the senior side in their Champions League meetings with Leipzig and Real Madrid.

Davies last term played in the EFL Trophy and made his U23s debut in a 3-0 win over Arsenal at Anfield, and saved two penalties as Liverpool beat Genk on a shoot-out to reach the UEFA Youth League quarter-finals.
