Liverpool goalkeeper seals loan transfer as contract hint dropped

Liverpool goalkeeper Harvey Davies has taken the latest step in his fledgling career by agreeing a loan move to Crewe Alexandra.

The 19-year-old shot-stopper will spend the forthcoming campaign at the League Two outfit as he aims to make his breakthrough into senior football.

Liverpool-born Davies, an England under-20 international and an Academy regular during the past three seasons, signed his first professional deal with the Reds two years ago and has trained regularly with the first team in recent years.

While still awaiting a first-team debut, the teenager has made the Champions League bench for Jurgen Klopp's side in each of the last three seasons, and was among the substitutes three times in the Premier League last August and once in the League Cup three months later.

And with Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher injured for the Community Shield clash with Manchester City last July, Davies picked up his first senior medal as deputy for stand-in goalkeeper Adrian. That the youngster has been allowed to depart on a temporary suggests Adrian is likely to pen the new deal offered to him by Liverpool.

Davies is the second Liverpool youngster to agree a loan move elsewhere for the new season with Calvin Ramsay temporarily moving to Championship side Preston North End.

The keeper has been at Liverpool since U9 level and made his debut for the U18s as an U16 player during the 2019/20 season. He was a regular in the side that reached the FA Youth Cup final in 2021, and subsequently made the step up to the U21s in Premier League 2 and has played in the EFL Trophy and the UEFA Youth League.

Earlier on Wednesday, Crewe announced their 18-year-old goalkeeper Tom Booth - who made his first-team breakthrough in April - had signed a new two-year deal.
