Liverpool "goal-machine" has offset Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane void

Andy Robertson says that Liverpool are relishing the tough trip to the San Siro... for a showdown with Italian royalty.

And he believes the Reds can do a number on Serie A Champions Inter Milan, with the backing of their passionate away support in Europe’s premier competition.

“We look forward to it – an iconic stadium, an amazing stadium, an incredibly tough opponent. I’m sure the crowd will be fantastic and we’ll bring a big away support. We are really looking forward to it,” he told the club website.

“(As soon) as the draw gets done you get excited by it and look forward to the challenge ahead like that. Inter are going really well in Serie A, fighting at the top, and it’s a tough away leg first.

“We need to be at our best and do what we’ve been doing over the last six to eight weeks. If we do that, I believe we can get a positive result. We’ll try to keep pushing on all fronts.”

Liverpool have been almost impeccable in the tough period through January where they were without their two biggest stars, with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane away on AFCON duty.

They have won four on the bounce in the Premier League and progressed in two domestic cups. Now it is the turn of Europe, and Italian giants Inter, a game the football world is anticipating with hunger.

The Reds go into the game in good form and with a fully fit squad, after winning seven of their last nine, and drawing the other two.

One of the unlikely reasons behind their success even in the absence of their leading goalscorers has been the contribution of defensive midfielder Fabinho, who has scored five goals in his last seven games.

And he believes everyone has to be ready to step up, with Liverpool now in an intense period of two games a week. “Now it’s the Champions League, and we play every three days,” he said.

“But we don’t have any injured players so this is good for us, for the team. Yes, we have to think about game after game, we have to try to win every game, and everybody has to be ready because we will all be needed.”

Liverpool do have a couple of minor injury issues for the visit to Italy, with Jordan Henderson’s knee problem the biggest issue, while Diogo Jota will be monitored after picking up a dead leg.
