Liverpool game at Villarreal still set to go ahead despite weather conditions

Liverpool's UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Villarreal is still expected to go ahead despite inclement conditions at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

The Reds head to the La Liga outfit with a 2-0 lead secured from the first leg at Anfield and can take another step towards an iconic quadruple if they see the job through.

However, Liverpool supporters heading out to the east of Spain hoping for a party in the sunshine may have to make do with singing in the rain, as a downpour has fallen in Castellon ahead of the match.

Adriano del Monte, who is at the stadium, wrote on Twitter tonight: "Heavy rain here in Villarreal again. Just spoke with referees, they are happy with the pitch - however I did see an official try bounce a ball earlier. It didn’t bounce."

Carl Markham of the Press Association also reported that there is a leak in the stadium and provided a video of water dripping from the ceiling.

The ECHO's Ian Doyle tweeted from the ground at 6.29pm and said: "The officials have just been out to check the goalline equipment. They didn't attempt to even bounce a ball or see how it runs on the pitch. Might be a good idea given the weather is deteriorating again here. No suggestion the game is in danger, though".

Although at 6.36pm, Ian gave another updated which said: "Nobody has been allowed inside the stadium yet apart from the media. That's a little odd".

Shortly after that, the first few fan arrivals could be seen entering the away end.
