Liverpool forward returns from final appearance to score landmark goal as run ended

Keyrol Figueroa marked his Liverpool return with an equaliser as the under-18s salvaged a point at Nottingham Forest.

Figueroa struck midway through the second half to earn the young Reds a 2-2 draw in their U18 Premier League North clash at the Nigel Doughty Academy on Saturday afternoon.

The 16-year-old - who is the son of former Wigan Athletic and Hull City defender Maynor Figueroa - was back in action for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side having finished second-top scorer at the CONCACAF U17 Championship, where he played for the United States in their 3-1 final defeat to Mexico in Guatemala at the start of the week.

The point was Liverpool's first away from home since October with the U18s, hampered by injuries and unavailability, now 10 games without a win in the league.

They took an early lead against Forest when James McConnell struck after only six minutes following good work by Jayden Danns. However, the home side turned the game around with goals either side of half-time through Joe Gardner and Jimmy Sinclair.

Figueroa, though, had the last word when he headed home on 66 minutes, marking his first league start with a debut goal in the competition.

Liverpool are next in action on Tuesday week (March 14) when they take on Sporting Lisbon in Portugal in their UEFA Youth League quarter-final.

LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Mrozek; Pitt (Furnell-Gill 88), Osborne, Pinnington, Giblin; Laffey, Kelly (Morrison 62), McConnell; Danns (Ahmed 82), Figuero, Gift (Onanuga 82). Subs: Hewitson.
