Liverpool fire Rangers Champions League warning shot as they rack up NINE against struggling Bournemouth

Liverpool have fired Rangers an ominous warning ahead of their October double-header in the Champions League.

The Premier League giants bounced back from a damaging defeat to Manchester United and racked up an incredible NINE-goal win to reassert their status as title contenders. They sank a sorry Bournemouth side on Saturday at Anfield, with Luis Diaz striking in the third minute and finishing off the scoring in the 85th.

Gio van Bronckhorst's men meet the Merseyside club home and away, with the two clashes in the space of eight days in Group A. The Anfield tie is scheduled for October 4, with the Ibrox blockbuster pencilled in for October 12. So, there is not long to wait until Gers fans see exactly what their boys can produce against one of Europe's best.

The Anfield giants were winless in their first three league games but seemed to have saved it all up for the visit of Scott Parker's team. Roberto Firmino was magical, striking a double and racking up THREE assists, showing he is still a man worthy of the Reds' No.9 shirt. Other goals came from Harvey Elliott, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Fabio Carvalho and a Chris Mepham own-goal.

They'll need some more of that form for a tough-looking Champions League group, with Napoli and Ajax making up the other two clubs. The group stage clashes kick-off in just 11 days time when Rangers make the trip to Amsterdam to take on Ajax in their opening tie. The Ibrox outfit then welcome Napoli to Govan before the Liverpool double-header. The Serie A side make the trip on September 13.
