Liverpool FC star Andy Robertson issues honest verdict on Premier League title race with Man City

Andy Robertson has played down the fact that Liverpool's game in hand on Manchester City could bolster the Reds' Premier League title chances this season.

Liverpool, who contested a 2-2 draw with City at Anfield back in October, currently find themselves nine points behind Pep Guardiola's side in the table ahead of Saturday's clash with Norwich City.

However, the Reds have a game in hand to come against Leeds United, also at Anfield, on Wednesday evening, meaning they could be as close as being just three points behind City if the latter suffer a surprise defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening at the Etihad Stadium.

But even though Liverpool are by no means out of the title race just yet, left-back Robertson has played down the benefit of having games in hand, insisting he would much prefer to be in City's position at the summit.

Robertson told Sky Sports : "I don't like the games in hand; I would rather have points on the board. I have always been like that.

"When people say you have got games in hand, I'm always like, 'Yes, but you have got to win those games to make it count'.

"We know how difficult Leeds can be, so I would much rather have points on the board and much rather be in City's position, that is for sure, nine points clear.

"But, like I have said, we just need to keep putting pressure on them. That is all we can do. We need to keep winning our games so they know that they cannot slip up.

"If they do drop points we need to be ready to pounce."
