Liverpool FC legends to be celebrated on Anfield 'Walk of Champions' named

The names of just some of the Liverpool FC legends who could be celebrated in a Hollywood-style 'Walk of Champions' outside Anfield have been revealed.

Former managers Gerard Houllier and Roy Evans, past great players, managers and staff including Roger Hunt, Kenny Dalglish, Ian Callaghan, Steven Gerrard, Ronnie Moran, Peter Robinson, Bob Paisley, Tom Saunders, Joe Fagan, John Bennison, Geoff Twentyman and Bryce Morrison could also feature.

The faces of those chosen would be on bronze plaques outside the stadium, according to plans submitted to Liverpool City Council.

The 'Walk of Champions' - set into the walkway of 97 Avenue between the edge of the stadium and the existing ‘fan personalisation’ area - would accompany the ongoing £80m expansion of the Anfield Road stand.

Along with bronze plaques celebrating key figures throughout Liverpool FC's rich history, the club also plans to install a number of smaller plaques commemorating big moments, such as the "miracle of Istanbul" in 2005.

The varying plaques would be installed over a number of years at a rate of approximately 10 per year during the off-season.

A cover letter submitted by Ryan & May Ltd urban planning company on behalf of Liverpool FC said: "In the early years of the project, the plaques will be randomly positioned within the area of public realm identified with the gaps gradually being filled over future years.

"The proposals have been designed as further extension of the artworks around the stadium, complementing the various statues and fan personalisation that help to draw visitors to Anfield on non-match days."
