Liverpool FC legend Jamie Carragher causes a stir as he shares divisive habit

Jamie Carragher has caused a stir online after he shared his divisive eating habit.

The iconic Liverpool FC defender is used to sparking debate amongst fans after sharing his footballing insights as a pundit on Sky Sports.

However, he has prompted debate in a completely different way as he waded into a contentious food debate on social media today.

The 43-year-old responded to a question from football writer Caiomhe O'Neill over whether people should heat up their cereal.

He said: "Yes! Hot milk is a must!!"

The comment split his 1.8m Twitter followers as some users said they sick after he revealed his eating preference.

Executive Chef at Lu Ban, Dave J Critchley, said: "What is this madness?"

@Ginger_Pirlo said: "Unfollowed."

Fiona posted, alongside a sick emoji: "The smell of hot milk on cereal"

Paul said: "Two people I’ve fell out with this morning now. Moody this"

@Poughl added: "No you don’t. Stop it immediately"

@JoeBlue202 commented: "@MerseyPolice can you investigate this please"

Robin said: "You’re both off your head"

However, other followers agreed that this was the best to take your cereal, but admitted it was dependent on the brand

Jill said: "Only hot milk on Weetabix. Otherwise cold."

Tony posted: "Only ever on weetabix lad."

Adem commented : "Only with Corn Flakes and sometimes Coco Pops. Otherwise cold"

Kristian added: "Shreddies with warm milk. Got me through school."

Deise said: "Cornflakes and milk, microwave 2 mins"
