Liverpool supporters in Naples for the Champions League clash with Napoli have been told to stay in their hotels and away from the city centre to avoid being targeted.
Reds fans began arriving in Naples on Tuesday morning ahead of the match, which will take place in the 55,000-seater Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Wednesday.
There were instances of travelling Liverpool supporters being targeted on the Champions League visits to the city in both 2018 and 2019. Similar problems were reported when the teams met in the Europa League in 2010.

Liverpool were given an allocation of 2,736 for Wednesday’s game, their first in Europe since the Champions League final in May against Real Madrid in Paris, after which Reds supporters were subjected to an unsuccessful smear campaign by French authorities after poor organisation and policing led to disturbances, some including local youths.
And a message on social media from Liverpool’s official fan services account issued a clear directive to supporters in Naples.
It read: “Supporters arriving in Naples prior to matchday should remain in their respective hotel to drink and eat. You are strongly advised not to wear team colours when travelling.
“Fans should not congregate in public areas and should avoid becoming isolated in areas away from the port area of the city. We strongly recommend you avoid the city centre. If you chose to visit, please beware that you may be targeted for theft, robbery, or assault.
“As per the Italian authorities, you’re advised to always carry your valid photo ID. We recommend supporters take a picture of their passport and driving license in the event they are lost or stolen. This will help with obtaining a replacement passport if required.”
